JENNIFER BEALS PHOTOGRAPHY

Jennifer Beals is not only a great actress. Another of her great talents is photography. She became interested in photography in high school and she took photography classes while she was studying at Yale University.

Jennifer's photographs are mostly black and white which she prefers over colour because she learned to process black and white and also for this reason she uses film over digital. Jennifer owns various cameras, one of them is a Leica M4.

These are some books of photography Jennifer likes: 'The Family of Man,' by Edward Steichen and Carl Sandburg; 'Looking at Photographs: 100 Pictures from the Collection of the Museum of Modern Art,' by John Szarkowski; 'Henri Cartier-Bresson, the Early Work,' by Peter Galassi; 'Teenage,' by Joseph Szabo; 'Coincidences,' by Sarah Moon.

Jennifer has said to take her camera with her to a lot of places and when she is on set and a project is dear to her she will make a photography book for her cast mates to give as a gift.

Her first book was on the set of Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, another one on the Anniversary Party ( her photographs were also featured on the film) and The L Word.

Originally intended for her cast mates, The L Word book became a special project because it was made available to the fans. This book not only contains photographs taken on set and parties but also it's a journal with interviews and discussions among the cast members, call sheets, memos.

Although the book is not longer available to order, selected prints from the book are still available to purchase online from TheLWordBook.com. Proceeds from the book and prints are donated to three charities: Matthew Sheppard Foundation, Pablove Foundation and I live Here Projects.
