Roundup: Jennifer Beals and Cinemanovels at TIFF 13

Cinemanovels, the film starring Lauren Lee Smith and Jennifer Beals and directed by Terry Miles, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6th.
Jennifer, Lauren, Terry along with actors Ben Cotton, Kett Turton and producer Kristine Cofsky attended the premiere at the Scotiabank theatre in Toronto. Jennifer and Lauren kept their fans updated  by tweeting during the weekend. Jennifer recommend two films she saw at the festival, Words and Pictures (with Juliette Binoche and Clive Owen) and Little Feet (directed by Jennifer’s first husband Alexandre Rockwell).

On the September issue of health and wellness magazine Energy Times, Jennifer talks about toxins and environmental health.

Jennifer Beals launched a fashion fad when she wore an off-the-shoulder grey sweatshirt in “Flashdance,” a Hollywood image made famous by the iconic movie poster featuring Beals as a Pittsburgh woman with dreams of ballet stardom. Thirty years later, Beals, 49, hopes to be part of a trend in which she has a much more personal stake, and one that has far more vital results: lobbying to rid household products and other manufactured goods of harmful toxins and raising awareness about alternatives.

Flashdance is celebrating its 30th year anniversary and the American Cinematheque has scheduled a screening of Flashdance, followed by a Q&A with Jennifer Beals, Michael Nouri and director Adrian Lyne.

The screening and follow up discussion will take place at the Aero Theatre, 1328 Montana Avenue, Santa Monica, California on September 21st at 7:30 pm.

Cinemanovels to premiere at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival

Cinemanovels, the new film starring Lauren Lee Smith and Jennifer Beals, will have its world premiere on September 6th at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, under the category Contemporary World Cinema, it was announced today during the festival’s press conference.
Founded in 1976, it’s one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. This year the festival runs from September 5th to 15th. Jennifer and Lauren Lee Smith are expected to attend the Festival.

This morning Jennifer Beals joined a twitter chat during the live streaming of the US Senate’s “Strengthening Public Health Protections by Addressing Toxic Chemical Threats” full committee hearing. A bi-partisan bill, called The Chemical Safety Improvement Act (S.1009) sponsored by Sen. David Vitter and the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg, was introduced in May 2013. Joined by 22 of their colleagues as co-sponsors, this marks the first bipartisan effort to reform and update the outdated and broken Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). 

A Fuller Life documentary to screen at the 2013 Venice film festival

A Fuller Life is a tribute documentary from Samantha Fuller to her late father the independent film director Samuel Fuller and narrates his life experiences taken from selected 12 passages from his autobiography, highlighting historical events in his life.

Jennifer Beals reads a chapter called Crime Reporter from his memoirs in this unconventional documentary directed by Samantha. Other actors and filmmakers reading chapters are James Franco, Tim Roth, Wim Wenders, Bill Duke, James Toback, Kelly Ward, Perry Lang, Robert Carradine, Mark Hamill, Joe Dante, Monte Hellman, Buck Henry, Constance Towers and William Friedkin.
